Online Success - 7 Things You Must Do

By Ian Dunford-Jones

When people decide to start and earn a living online they usually dive straight into Google AdWords, Yahoo or one of the other paid advertising platforms, which is all well and good if you know you are going to succeed.
If it is a new Business Opportunity that is being promoted, the chances are all this may be alien to them and serious mistakes can be made. Therefore, several steps need to be completed before anyone ploughs in and thinks they are going to make a fortune overnight, as this is very rare.
1. Carry out your research thoroughly, to the point it becomes painful, because this will separate the good Business Opportunities from the bad ones. This goes for working from home or working trying to make online.
2. Once a good Business Opportunity has been identified, research that market in the same thorough manner to determine the market is either big enough or niche enough to make money in.
3. Choose a related domain name that identifies with the chosen market place. A good example would be if someone were selling dried flowers online a good domain name would have the word "flowers" in it. Never use your own name as a domain name and if at all possible get a .com name.
4. Build or get built a good web site and make sure you include the following pages: Home, About Us, Links, Contact Us and Terms and Conditions. Include as many other pages for products and services, required to promote the business, but include those five pages every time as these will contain the main information for the search engine robots.
5. Advertise your business for free, before you go down the paid advertising route. A good tip here is to start before your website is finished, say 2 or 3 weeks before, because it takes time to have an effect and draw visitors. This can be done in several ways like writing articles then submitting them or setting up a You Tube account. And then there are the numerous free ad web sites out there. This will drive traffic to your website.
6. Dedicate an email address for responses. You should be able to choose several with your website hosting package. Include a sales@ for use with all your advertising so you can track it easily and use a more personal one which you offer people for support after the sale has taken place and make the point that it is private email address.
7. Now start and use Google AdWords, Yahoo or similar paid advertising to promote your new business with the revenue you have received from your free advertising. Test this carefully because money is easily spent here without the return to cover it. Choose some low cost keywords or phrases first and place 2 or 3 ads to test which performs the best. Once you have success scale it all up.
So, there you have 7 useful steps to Online Success and it is just a question of keeping a presence online or offline that drives people to your business and ultimately sells products.
